How Folder Locking Works

Edeson Folder Locker uses a tracking-based approach to folder protection. When you select a folder:

  1. The app records the folder's metadata (name, path, file count, size)
  2. You set a password that is required before the app will show or interact with that folder
  3. The folder remains exactly where it is on your device - nothing is moved or modified

Important: The app manages access to folders through the app interface. It does not modify operating system file attributes. Your actual files are never touched.

How Folder Hiding Works

When you hide a folder through the app:

  • The folder is removed from the app's visible interface
  • You need your password to view hidden folders or restore them
  • The folder itself is NOT modified on your device
  • Other apps on your device can still see the folder

This provides privacy within Edeson Folder Locker, but does not hide the folder from your operating system or other applications.

How to Restore Folders

To restore a hidden or locked folder:

  1. Go to Locked Folders to see all tracked folders
  2. Click the Unhide button next to a hidden folder (requires password)
  3. Click the Unlock button to make a locked folder visible (requires password)
  4. Or go to Unhide Folder to see and restore all hidden folders at once

Browser Limitations

Edeson Folder Locker works as a web application in your browser. Due to browser security restrictions:

  • Chrome/Edge (Desktop): Full folder access via File System Access API. The app can read folder contents and persist access across sessions.
  • Firefox/Safari: Limited folder access. You can select folders but may need to re-grant permission after closing and reopening the browser.
  • Mobile Browsers: Support varies. Chrome on Android (v150+) supports folder selection. Other mobile browsers may have limited or no folder access.
  • OS-Level Hiding: This browser-based app cannot set operating system hidden flags on folders. Hiding is only within the app interface.

Safety Precautions

  • Your files are safe. The app never moves, copies, encrypts, renames, or modifies your files.
  • Use strong passwords. Choose passwords with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Remember your recovery question. This is your only way to reset a forgotten password.
  • Back up your settings regularly. Export your folder list and settings as a backup.
  • Re-grant permissions. After browser updates or clearing browser data, you may need to re-select folders to restore access.
